Cutle - Cut Shapes into Equal Halves

Draw a straight line through the shape and divide its filled area into two equal parts. Cutle shows the two pieces, their area ratio and an accuracy score. A cut that looks centred is not always balanced: a wide lobe or an empty hole can move the halfway point.

The game opens ready to play. Choose Daily for the shared UTC challenge, or Unlimited for a new generated shape whenever you want one.

How to play Cutle

  1. Look at the filled area. Empty space and holes do not count.
  2. Start outside the shape. Press on the board, drag all the way through the shape, and release outside its opposite edge.
  3. Read the split. The two pieces move apart. Their percentages show how evenly you divided the area.
  4. Try again. Select Retry or tap the completed board. Your best score remains saved.
  5. Share your score. Share copies the percentages, score and number of cuts, without revealing the cutting line.

For keyboard play, choose Adjust cut. Use the Angle and Position sliders, then press Make cut. The line previews your choice. Arrow keys make fine adjustments, and Home and End move to each slider’s limits. Escape cancels an active pointer stroke without counting a cut.

Questions

How does Cutle calculate the score?

This edition calculates the area of its polygon artwork on each side of the line, subtracting holes and adding separate regions. The smaller percentage is rounded to one decimal place and doubled. A precise 49.6 : 50.4 split scores 99.2%. The large ratio rounds to whole percentages, so it can display 50:50 before you have a perfect score; the smaller line shows the precise percentages.

The score advances in steps of 0.2%. A perfect 100.0% means both precise percentages round to 50.0. The closest score below perfect is 99.8%.

What are the trophies?

  • Perfect: 100.0%.
  • Gold: at least 99.0%.
  • Silver: at least 97.0%.
  • Bronze: at least 95.0%.

Silver and higher earn a short star celebration. Animation respects your browser’s reduced motion preference. There is no sound to switch off.

Why did my cut not count?

A valid line crosses filled area and extends past every edge that it intersects. Starting inside the shape, stopping before the far edge, touching just a corner, or passing through an empty gap does not count. Invalid strokes do not increase your cut count or change your best score.

Can I make more than one cut?

Yes. Retry a shape as often as you like. Every valid cut counts as an attempt, and your best score stays saved even if your next cut is less accurate. There is no timer or attempt limit.

When does the daily shape change?

The daily challenge changes at 00:00 UTC. Everyone receives the same shape for the same date. The countdown below the controls shows the time remaining. If midnight passes while you are playing, your current shape stays open and a Play today button offers the new one.

How many shapes are there?

The daily collection has 30 original polygon shapes, including stars, rings, arrows, a heart, steps, a horseshoe and shapes with separate regions. The versioned collection cycles in a fixed order. Unlimited mode generates smooth irregular outlines from a saved seed, so you can refresh or share a link without changing that shape.

How does the archive work?

The calendar button opens daily shapes from September 17, 2026 through today. Select a date to replay it and see your saved best score. Future dates cannot be opened. Archive attempts do not extend your daily streak.

Does my progress save?

Your current result, cut count, best score and keyboard adjustments are saved in this browser, in both Daily and Unlimited mode. The detail page and standalone Cutle game share progress. Clearing browser storage removes those records. If storage is unavailable, the game still works for the current session.

What counts toward my streak?

Making any valid cut in a daily challenge counts as a played day. Consecutive UTC days build your streak. Repeating a shape improves your best score without adding another day. Archive and Unlimited results do not add to your streak.

About this edition

This game is inspired by the area-cutting mechanic at Cutle. Playdle’s edition uses its own polygon artwork, area calculation, daily schedule and visual design. Scores and statistics are personal to this browser; there is no shared leaderboard or account requirement.
