ToonTone - Cartoon Character Colour Guessing Game

ToonTone tests your memory for character colours. Is SpongeBob’s yellow warmer than you remember? How bright is Kirby’s pink? Adjust the named part of each character, submit your colour, and compare your version with the reference portrait.

The game opens directly on the first character. Complete five rounds to get an average score out of 10. Choose the daily set or play unlimited practice sets.

How to play ToonTone

1. Read the character and body part. The part you are painting changes with your selected colour. The rest of the portrait stays the same.
2. Move H — Hue. Choose the colour family: red, orange, yellow, green, blue or purple.
3. Adjust S and B. Saturation changes how vivid the colour is; brightness changes how dark or light it is. Watch the portrait as you adjust.
4. Submit your colour. Press the check mark. Your portrait and the original appear side by side, with a score from 0 to 10.
5. Finish five characters. Your final result is the average of all five scores. Share it without revealing the characters or their colours.

Questions

How does scoring work?

The game compares your chosen colour with the reference colour using a perceptual colour difference. A close match earns more points, up to 10 per character. The final score averages all five rounds, including skips. This edition uses its own scoring curve and the palettes in its simplified vector portraits.

What does the hint do?

A hint names the colour family and gives broad saturation and brightness levels. Using it caps that round at 8 out of 10. The hint and its score cap remain after a refresh.

Can I skip a character?

Yes. Skip reveals the original colour and records 0 points for that round. It uses one of the five rounds; it does not replace the character.

When does the daily game reset?

Daily sets change at 00:00 UTC. Everyone receives the same five characters for that day. If the date changes during a game, finish your current set or select Play today when the notice appears.

Can I keep playing after the daily set?

Select Practice, or Play again on the result screen. Practice has no daily limit and does not affect daily statistics. A shared practice link opens the same five-character set for a friend.

Which characters are included?

This edition starts with 18 characters across cartoons, anime and games: SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Winnie the Pooh, Shrek, Jake, Finn, Gumball, Darwin, Perry, Stitch, Truffles, Pikachu, Doraemon, Kirby, Mario, Luigi and Sonic. Every set is drawn from this full collection.

Does my progress save?

Your current colour, hints, submitted rounds and result save in this browser. The detail page and standalone ToonTone game share that progress. Clearing browser storage removes saved games and statistics.

How do streaks work?

Complete all five characters in a daily set to count a day, at any score. Consecutive UTC days build your streak. Reopening a result does not count another completion. Statistics show games played, current streak, average score and best average.

Can I use a keyboard or phone?

Yes. The colour controls support touch and mouse dragging. With a keyboard, Tab to a slider and use the arrow keys; Home and End select its limits. Tab to Submit and press Enter. The sliders are labelled H, S and B and show numerical values.

About this edition

Playdle’s implementation is inspired by the colour matching gameplay at ToonTone. It uses newly drawn, simplified vector portraits, its own daily sets, local statistics and scoring. Character names identify the subjects of the quiz; this edition is not affiliated with the original game or the characters’ creators.
