Star Battle - Daily Logic Puzzle with Hints

Star Battle is a grid logic puzzle. The board is split into coloured regions, and your job is to place stars so that every row, every column and every region holds exactly one. The catch: no two stars may touch, not even at a corner. Each day brings two fresh puzzles, a Normal 8×8 and a Hard 10×10.

How to play Star Battle

  1. Tap a cell once to cross it out, twice to place a star, and a third time to clear it.
  2. Drag across empty cells to cross out a whole line at once.
  3. Each star crosses out the cells it rules out: the rest of its row, column and region, and the eight cells around it. You can turn this off in Settings.
  4. Place one star in every row, column and region. The puzzle is solved the moment the last star lands without breaking a rule.

On a keyboard, the arrow keys move around the board, Space cycles a cell, S places a star, X crosses a cell out and Backspace clears it.

Questions

Do I ever have to guess?

No. Every puzzle has exactly one solution, and each one was checked by a solver that uses only logical steps, the same ones the hints explain. If you find yourself guessing, there is a deduction waiting somewhere on the board.

How do hints work?

Hint first checks your board for mistakes, such as a star that is not part of the solution or a crossed-out cell that needs a star. Otherwise it finds the next logical step and explains it in plain words: a region that fits only in one column, a row with a single open cell, or a cell whose star would leave another region with no room. Show me makes the move for you. Hints are counted in your result.

What is the difference between Normal and Hard?

Normal is an 8×8 grid that can be solved by spotting single cells and regions squeezed into one row or column. Hard is a 10×10 grid that also needs group reasoning. For example, if two regions fit entirely inside two rows, those rows cannot hold any other stars.

When do new puzzles arrive?

Every day at 00:00 UTC. Use Prev and Next under the board to play earlier days. Replays never count towards your streak.

How are time and streaks counted?

The clock starts with your first move and pauses while the tab is hidden, a window is open or you press pause. Your streak counts the days in a row on which you solved at least one of that day’s puzzles. Best and average times are kept for each difficulty, in this browser only.

What does sharing show?

Your times and hints for that day’s two puzzles, plus your streak. Star positions are never included.
